Woohoo! You’ve just gotten engaged! Such an exciting time in your life! Dress shopping, picking your bridal party, getting all the details planned, venues and vendors booked.
So, you’ve snagged that amazing photographer of your dreams… And they want to do an engagement session as part of your wedding package. Sounds great, but why do we hear this all the time; – “why should we do an engagement session?” “I’m awkward in front of the camera” or “my fiancé hates having his picture taken.” Now that we’ve gotten the typical nervous comments out of the way let us explain why it’s super important.
Celebrate! Share with the world how in love you are! This is one of those moments in life that you can look back on in 10 years and relive the feelings all over again.
It helps you relax and get used to being in front of the camera. It’s ok to be nervous. It’s ok to worry about how to stand and where to put your hands. The e-session is where you learn to pose, the right way to smooch all cute on camera and how to use body language so it looks the best on camera. Plus, truthfully there is always one person in the couple that is stiff and awkward the moment the camera points at them. What better time then during a casual engagement session to get used to having a professional photographer?
Consider your engagement session almost like an audition. It’s a great way to really get to know your photographer(s) and make sure you’ve made the right choice for your big day. Chemistry is so important – especially when you consider that other than your bridal party, it’s actually your photographers that spend the most time with you on your wedding day. Your photographers should be your secret weapon for helping keep the day running smoothly too. Timelines and details are the first thing that pops into my mind – that’s where great communication and having an experienced professional working for you is fantastic.
We use engagement sessions to learn about our client’s wedding wants too. Often we can be a little more adventurous with locations and posing during the session, mostly because there isn’t a wedding dress involved ha! Our goal is usually to offer a few different locations to help narrow down the types of spots we use on your wedding day too. Whether it’s an urban vibe, country or some kind of eclectic grungy spot, most of the time our clients don’t know what they’d like until we go adventuring and they see the final images.
We believe so strongly in them that we provide a free e-session to every couple we book as part of their wedding package. That includes all the benefits of getting to know each other, getting used to the concept of having a couple cameras pointed at you and overall it’s just a super fun time. Besides, who doesn’t want super cute photos with the person that makes your heat flutter?
